Day 152 Lighting Set-up...

Day 152 -Lighting Set-up...

The following tutorial shows how to shoot low key portraits in day light...

- Expose location until just black. In this case ISO 100 - 1/200 secs - F/8
- Make sure the shot just about goes black so you can shoot with strobes on lowest power possible
- Now Introduce strobes/ Flash

- Start with key light. Adjust power and angle until happy. In this case 1/1 power zoomed at 70mm

- Then add fill. Use a softer light source (Softbox, umbrella)
- Adjust angle and power until happy. In this case 1/2 with softbox

(Both images above display light sources described only)

- Final image with both strobes together.

- The fill light illuminates the subject giving soft glow with soft shadows
- key light gives a hard edge to shot making it more 3D and detached from dark background

- There are many different ways to tweak this set-up, this is just a basic example -

Hope it helps...

Documenting life below the surface...

Documenting life below the surface...

Photographer Jeremy White has created one of the most interesting projects i've seen in some time.
"I've always been intrigued by what happens below the surface, like what's happening where we can't see."  - Jeremy White
Setting out to discover a world many will never see, Jeremy White documents the under water world.  He's developed a site containing many images from the project.
Short trailer of the project...

Check it out...
